Siquijor Escapade Part 1: Getting There
Although the trip to Siquijor wasn’t well planned, the stay there was quite amazing. Rio and I decided that we shouldn’t waste any more time planning and let things fall into place.
My aunt, who has traveled so many times from Siquijor to Iligan and back again, became our personal travel consultant. With my aunt’s help, the “tracking ride” was laid out. Because there was no direct trip from Iligan to Siquijor on February 14, she instructed us to take a bus to Cagayan de Oro and ride the Cebu Ferries going to Dumaguete. Cebu Ferries left CDO at midnight.
The ride was smooth sailing. A miracle it was, considering that it has been raining for 2 weeks straight already. That night, the weather was great, the air was cool, and the waves didn’t taunt us.

A windy ride to Dumaguete City.
We arrived at Dumaguete by 8:00 AM. My aunt’s daughter, Blizel, who was staying at Dumaguete, met with us at the port to show us where to get tickets for Delta 1 Fast Ferries which will be the ride that will take us to Siquijor. The boat will depart at 9:30 which meant a bit more time to get some breakfast.

After buying some goodies for my relatives at Siquijor, we rushed back to the port and almost got left behind by the boat. Luckily, we were not the only ones who were late for the ride. Phew…
Anyway, the ride on Delta 1 Fast Ferry was indeed fast! Although we experienced a whole lot of dizzy spells and bumpy waves, it was a terrific experience. Rio got nauseated and almost didn’t survive the ride. Some passengers didn’t have the guts to keep their breakfast down. Glad I was able to keep mine inside.

The 45-minute ride to Siquijor was altogether fun and nauseating. As the image of the island was slowly emerging from the horizon, I was getting more and more excited. Once we stepped on the port of Siquijor, Rio and I knew we will never regret our unplanned trip to the Island of Siquijor.
